Spicy Potato Fry
I guess there are days when you don’t feel like going outside for groceries, specially in the cold chilly weather. I try to manage without buying any vegetables for two to three weeks. Today in my pantry I have only onions and potatoes that’s all and my dear hubby demanded for something spicy food…… Hmmm……It was almost 7.30PM and I am really tired to cook anything. This time I cannot escape by making any execuses, so I gathered all my energy and patience to make jhatpat theki allu ki sabji (spicy potato curry) which is fast to make and to spice up your day, add lots of red chili powder and for tanginess add little lime juice or tamarind paste. This dish is a perfect match with rice or hot pulka’s.
Here is the recipe…
Ingredients:
4 Potatoes (Peeled and chopped into small cubes)
1 onion (Finely chopped)
4 Garlic Pods (Finely chopped)
6-7 Whole Dry Red Chills
6-7 Curry Leaves
1 tsp Cumin seeds
1 tsp Turmeric Powder
2 tsp Chili Powder (If you like really spicy you can add more)
1 tsp Coriander Powder
Salt to taste
2 tbsp Lime juice
2 tbsp Oil
Method:
Heat oil in a deep pan; add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves when they begin to pop then add red chilies in it. Add chopped onions and potatoes, mix them properly and cook for few minutes till they become soft then add salt, red chili powder and coriander powder; mix well and cook for few more minutes. Now pour the lime juice and stir it properly. Cook for another 10 minutes, turn off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves (optional)
